I firmly believe it is during the first few years of primary education that children become friendlier and sociable.
This institution owes its origin to the fervent wish of the late Wagle Brothers- Shri Manikrao V. Wagle , Mohanrao V. Wagle and their sister Smt. Nandinibai K. Balseker to cherish the memory of their dear departed by donating generously towards founding a Temple of Knowledge at the abode of Shri Mangirish at Mangeshi-Goa. This gracious gesture was appreciated and supplemented by many of their friends and well wishers and thus Shree Mangirish Vidyadayini Samstha was established in January 1966 with late Puttapa S. Nadkarni, LA.S. as its founder President, Dr. Shripad A. Nadkarni as Vice President and Prof. D. B. Wagh as its local Secretary, among many other members. Shri Mangesh Devasthan, headed by its then President Late Dr. Keshavrao Mulgaonkar, patronised the Samstha by offering a gift of land measuring 5500 square meters close to the Devasthan in February 1966.
The construction of the School building designed by Shri Arvind Puttapa Nadkarni was completed in a record time of ten months and inaugurated by the then Liet Governor of Goa Shri K. Damle on 27th December 1966.Shri Mahalsa English School, Mardol, promoted by Ms. Nalini Kamat Ghanekar merged into V.D. & S.V. Wagle High School in 1966 with 222 students and its teaching staff viz. Shri N. T. Kerkar, Shri M. M. Thomas & Ms. K. B. Naik. Shri V. S. Watve was appointed as the first Headmaster in 1966 and thus launching of the now well known V.D. & S.V. Wagle High School was complete. Mr. M. M. Thomas took over as the Headmaster in 1974 when Shri V. S. Watve relinquished his post after a period of seven years of meritorious service to the School.
The School is throbbing with activities and achievements ever since its inception. The school has produced several Rank holders in the S.S.C. Examination in the past two decades of its sterling performance, securing as high as the second place in the Merit list of the S.S.C. Board.
Some of our studious and determined students have undertaken their higher studies in Engineering and Medicine in the U.K. and United States. Many of the present Melody Makers of Goa are our past students. Some of the Teaching and performing Artists of the Goa Kala Academy and the A.LR. Panaji have bloomed from the Wagle Cultural Club.
In the prestigious inter School One-Act Play Competitions conducted by the Goa Kala Academy, our School has been bagging the State Awards consecutively for the past fifteen years in acting, direction, stage-craft, make-up, light effect, playback music etc. An accomplishment, indeed. In the colourful interschool Folk Dance Competitions the Wagle Dance Troupe has been crowned with the State Awards several times.
The achievements of the school in the field of sports and games have not been any less impressive. A few of our students have not only wrested some of the state level prizes but also represented Goa of certain National Tournaments. The performance of the Wagle Science Club has also been equally spectacular. It won the 1st prize at the State level science exhibition of couple of times and represented Goa at the National Science Exhibition at Bombay, Patna and New Delhi.
